The challenge: more requests, more detail
Three years ago, customers didn't ask for emissions data. Over the past two years the requests rose sharply, driven by building certifications such as BREEAM and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
The questions got harder too. First it was one CO2 number per project or quarter. Now customers want it per article, for products that travel through several modes and routes. With many carriers and many data sources, that is only possible if all transport data sits in one place.

“Having a solid master data strategy and data management system that can handle all of our data sources and carriers is critical for our annual reporting process.”
The solution
SGDN split its transport into four categories: inbound organised by SGDN, inbound by suppliers, transport between its own sites, and outbound. All carrier data is normalised and stored in one system, so reports cover the whole journey of a product.
"We need to have all the data normalized and captured in the same solution to be able to report across the entire journey of a product or article," says Ingrid Kalstad.
The impact
Annual group reporting from one data base, for every category except some inbound supplier transport.
Customer reports on demand, from last mile to the full journey from supplier to building site.
A shared logistics centre that consolidates deliveries from the five companies to the same building sites.
Scenario planning on loading, vehicle use and routes to cut emissions and cost.
